Case History

At the request of the project's, LSP, Universal Environmental Technologies, Inc. (UET) was engaged by the property owner to perform the necessary work for the submission of a Modified Immediate Response Action (MIRA) plan for the design, fabrication, assembly and installation of a Subsurface Depressurization System( SDS), to be located at a commercial building in the center of Town. The primary goal of this system was to mitigate a potential imminent hazard by creating and/or redirecting contaminant vapor zone migration pathways away from the building spaces, thereby removing and reducing concentration levels of indoor vapors within the building emanating from suspected off site source(s) and/or internally-generated off-gassing.

Site Configuration

Due to the esthetics, the SDS (Sub-slab Decompression System) equipment was installed in a converted open dumpster shed of limited size. A 10 hp vacuum blower, vapor liquid separator, a heat exchanger, carbon units and PLC controller were installed at 2 levels to accommodate the space's available volume.

UET installed 13 SDS wells, each individually controllable, in 3 zones in order to provide extraction coverage for the entire building. The negative pressure created by the SDS regenerative blower initiated both removal of vapors from the building spaces and the contaminated soil. These vapors passed through a vapor liquid separator and then through a heat exchange to facilitate maximum carbon adsorbsion and finally to discharge.

UET designed the total system, supervised the excavation of the trenches and piping, installed man hole apparatuses, installed sensors, controls, and wiring, installed the shed equipment, perform startup and commissioning.
The system has been operating for 16 months without any down time, except for carbon change outs.
